Paying for college is one of the first things people stress about when they're thinking about enrolling. And honestly? That stress makes sense. Tuition, books, fees, gas to get to campus, the coffee you're definitely going to need. It adds up fast.
But before you talk yourself out of enrolling (or take on more loans than you need to), here's something worth knowing:
SCC gives away over $350,000 in scholarships every year.
And applying for them? Takes one application.
One. Application.
That's not a typo.
The SCC Foundation hands out scholarships to hundreds of students every year, and they're not all for 4.0 students or star athletes. Scholarships get awarded for all kinds of reasons: academic merit, financial need, the program you're studying, the career you're heading toward, even the county you live in.
Translation: there's a really good chance at least one of these was made for someone exactly like you.
And here's the magic part. You don't have to hunt them down one by one or figure out which ones you qualify for. You fill out a single application, and the system matches you with every scholarship you're eligible for. It's one of those things that sounds too good to be true and then turns out to just be… how it works.
Pretty much anyone enrolling or already enrolled at SCC in credit classes. New students, returning students, first-time college students, adult learners coming back after a break: all welcome.
There's one catch, and it's a small one. You have to apply to SCC before you can apply for scholarships. If you haven't started that part yet, head over and get the admissions application going first. It's free to apply, it doesn't take long, and once you're in the system, the scholarship application is ready when you are.
While you're at it, it's also worth completing your FAFSA (SCC's school code is 004603). Scholarships stack with federal and state aid, so filling out both gives you the best shot at making college genuinely affordable.
Visit the scholarships page at scciowa.edu to learn more and get to the Foundation application. If you have questions, run into something confusing, or just want someone to walk you through it, the Financial Aid office is ready to help at both campuses:
West Burlington Financial Aid: 319-208-5014, faofficewb@scciowa.edu
Keokuk Financial Aid: 319-313-1931, faofficekk@scciowa.edu
College is worth investing in. It's even better when someone else is helping foot the bill.

Starting college can feel like standing at the edge of a map with no compass. Which classes do you take? How do you pay for it? What happens if life gets in the way? At SCC, you're...
